It maybe freezing outside but if this weekends visit round the high street tells me anything, it’s that spring is just around the corner. The spring summer collections are just starting to replace the final bits of sale stock that didn’t manage to sell. Yet many fashion houses have just finished showcasing their Autumn Winter collections, fashion moves fast. So fast, for many, it’s hard to keep up. That’s why each season I put together a guide to help you navigate through the myriad of fashion trends. Want to know what you’ll be wearing this summer? Keep reading and you’re about to find out.

There are a few things that I noticed this season that I want to run through. If you’ve been following the spring summer trends for a few years you’ll notice that there are a handful of trends that always make an appearance each time around.

White appears again and in my eyes is really a summer staple. There is nothing quite like crisp white in the warm weather. Pastels are back. My very first post on this blog was how to wear pastels back in 2010 and the soft shades have been knocking about the catwalk each spring summer since then. It used to be about a single colour; tangerine, cobalt blue, red, but in recent years it’s more about the shade. Take the powder – puff, sweet pastel shades for a girly soft injection of colour this season. But if you’re feeling confident and want to turn it up a notch, then the shocking neons will be ready to make you stand out from the crowd. Florals, graced the catwalks at Prada and Moschino, which you saw transitioning from last season and spring summer 2012.

This season there seemed to be trends upon trends, more so than any other season that I’ve noticed. It’s starting to become a case of anything goes. However, tread carefully, as with every season, there are one or two styles and trends that may only be fleeting love affair. Bomber jackets are the outerwear of choice for those chilly spring evenings, the 80s are back, again and tribal has morphed into full blown zoology inspired animal prints.

Fed up of the ever growing heel heights? You’re in luck as square kitten heels are one of the key heels for the season. The plastic trend that appeared for fashion also inspired footwear for spring summer 2013. Some of my favourite shoes had perspex heels and clear panels. Awesome to look at, but a nightmare for anyone prone to sweaty feet!

If the wedge is your summer heel of choice then make sure it’s decorative as that’s the only way to rock them this season. Irrespective of the shoes that end up being your staple this spring summer, make sure your feet are ready to see the sunshine. I’ve already seen tweets on my timeline talking about sorting out their ‘bear claws’ make sure yours are in check before the sun comes out.

I’ll leave you with a short video (6 mins) of my five favourite trends for the season:

As always I’d love to hear what you think about the trends?

What will you be wearing this spring summer?

I’m also planning a Google Hangout for mid February discussing how to wear this seasons trends if you want to join in let me know. You’ll just need a Google + account and a webcam.

Doing more video I see! “Get your Angelina Jolie on,” haha, that part made me laugh! As for the upcoming trends I always love a nice fitted pencil skirt, especially a light cotton sateen, maybe in cobalt or green! Yes, there are loads of shoes with extravagant pieces on them, I think that will still be around for some time, as shoes really do say something “special” to an outfit … the good and bad! Take care! /Madison :)

Yeah, I set myself the goal of doing more video this year so I’m experimenting with it. Ha ha I’m glad you liked that comment. Thanks for commenting Madison.

It sounds like the trends are right up my alley. Pastels, bomber jackets — and, like you commented, the bright-bra-under-see-through-shirt-thing. Ha! It’s funny, I usually just wear what I want and don’t pay attention to the trends, but sometimes the two happen to align.

Well that’s good to hear that the two aligned and it worked out that way for you. Good to hear there are some trends you’re looking forward to for SS13.
