A Trip Down Memory Lane: 90′s vs 00′s Fashion Fads

I’ve not been feeling too great this morning so decided to write a post that was a little bit of fun. I thought of the topic after seeing a video game blog asking it’s readers which decade was better for video games; the 90′s or the 00′s. This got me thinking about different fashion that I can remember, or brands or trends from the 90′s and also things that I’ve seen more recently that are hideous. I don’t intend for it to be an extensive list I know there are plenty more fashion fads out there for both decades that I’ve omitted, so if you can think of some just let us know by dropping a comment. For the time being I’ll stick to the ones that I can think of…feel free to add your own.

90′s

The Shell Suit

Ha ha being a kid in the 90′s I think everyone had a shell suit at the time, you’d see full families going out on day trips dressed head to toe in them. The scary thing that I remember is you had to make sure you didn’t sit too close to the fire otherwise you’d go up in a puff of smoke.

The bum bag

Also known as the ‘fanny pack’ to our American friends. If you’re wondering why us Brits changed the name, in case you didn’t already know the word ‘fanny’ is slang for a woman’s private parts. I actually saw a guy wearing one of these a couple of weeks ago, it was certainly a blast from the past. I used to have one to store random stuff in like conkers, bits of string and anything else that could I could use to turn me into Indiana Jones.

Sportswear

I don’t know about you, but when I was about 14 there was no such word as chav. Back in those days if you were wearing adidas popper pants had the latest reebok classics and any other sportswear branded clothes, you were the man. For me I was heavily into basketball so most of my clothes were adorned with some Basketball team’s logo. But now things have completely changed if you were to wear anything sport related when you’re not playing sported you’re a chav.

00′s

Skinny Jeans

Ok I’m all for tapered jeans and slim fitted jeans but super skinny jeans are just a no no, you know the ones wear you can literally see a guys bulge and they look like they have been sprayed on? Yeah those are the ones I’m talking about.

Von Dutch & Trucker Hats

Remember when everyone was wearing trucker hats? Those hats that have the mesh back and then like a foam front panel. They exploded in popularity with the rise of the brand Von Dutch which was heavily celebrity endorsed. You had the links of Pharrell Williams from the Neptunes rocking them. Then the brand just disappeared after the chavs got hold of it.

Men’s Ugg Boots

This one is on going, I’m pretty sure this winter I’ll see some guys out in Ugg boots. But they just look wrong in my opinion and I can definitely see us looking back in the future thinking what the hell were people thinking…

As I mentioned earlier these are just a few fads from the past decades I can remember, I’d love to hear any more you can think of.
