Style Icons: Lauren Conrad

I’ve been neglecting this series and decided to resurrect it when I was making my blogging schedule. So it returns with a fairly recent style icon, a celebrity that was born from the reality TV boom (aren’t they all nowadays?); Lauren Conrad. My last style icons post caused some mixed reactions when it featured Olivia Palermo. Some were over looking her style and commenting more on her character, so I’m really keen to see the reaction Lauren Conrad gets. I’m guessing it’s going to be more positive than what was left for Olivia Palermo. I’m pretty sure most people reading this blog will be familiar with Lauren Conrad by now but just incase you didn’t know. She made a name for herself in 2006 as part of the original cast of the reality TV show ‘The Hills’ aired on MTV. Since then her career and status as a fashionista has grown from strength to strength.

So what are her credentials?

Well her background is in fashion design and merchandising, she spent time at Teen Vogue and released her first fashion collection in 2008 at LA fashion week. In 2010 she released a book titled style which was well.. a style guide and featured her experiences in the fashion industry.

The thing I love about her style is it seems very ‘LA’ in that she has a much more relaxed look while still remains well turned out. She works the trends well and keeps her looks fun and flirty. I think because her look is a bit more relaxed it’s easier to mimic, which makes a great icon to aspire to her if you’re trying to step up your style game, particularly if you’re on a budget as well as she never seems too ‘high fashion’.

Cinched in waist anyone?

She’s great at taking casual pieces that you may wear during the day and glamming them up for the evening. She makes good use of accessories, I’ve noticed she’s keen on using belts to cinch in her waist line, highlighting the slimmest part of her body. She’s great as well at emphasising her killer feature… her legs! Notice her preference for thigh skimming mini dresses and shorts. That’s definitely something that can be learnt from her, find your killer feature and highlight it, don’t hide it away.

Killer Legs!

I love LC. She seems like a down to earth kind of gal. Someone I can def. be friends with. I also love her style, it’s chic without being to overly done. I also LOVE her site The Beauty Department. They def. give some really great advice…I’m just waiting for my hair to grow longer so I can pull of some of those hair styles. :)
