How To Use Your Image To Drive Your Day

Yesterday I met up with a friend I hadn’t seen for a while. We were discussing blogging and fashion and a whole host of other stuff. While we were talking we got onto the subject of the way women and guys approach clothes. A great point he emphasised was how when women go shopping they appreciate the shopping experience. When a guy goes shopping he literally goes out with something in mind or sees something he likes and buys it. That’s pretty much it. Going back to the whole shopping experience; this is why women will go out and try on clothes with out buying anything. For most guys that’s an alien concept. But for women that is the reality of shopping, they will try on clothes because they  realise that it makes them feel good. It’s about savouring that feeling and the feeling they get from genuinely pleasurable retail experiences.

So as a guy what can we learn from this?

It’s quite simple when we look good we feel good. While you don’t necessarily have to savour the whole shopping experience if you aim to look your best every day then you’ll start the day as you mean to go on. Feeling great and motivated. Who wouldn’t want to start their day like that? You can then take that confidence with you for the rest of the day.

We can learn from the whole shopping experience as well. While having a plan or an idea of what you are going shopping for is useful it can also stifle your creativity. Next time when you go shopping try on a couple of outfits that you would never wear. Just try it to see how it looks and makes you feel. You don’t have to buy any of the pieces, but it will at least give you an idea of how different pieces look on you that you may have never tried before.

  1. My husband is against shopping the last time we went shopping it was a horrible experience for him, because he have to try on clothes and make sure they fit him good, overall he hates shopping LOL actually he never go shopping, I bought his clothes especially the going out ones, but for his work clothes we go together and thats probably once a year.
Great advice, I actually did tell him to try on cdifferent clothes than the ones that he always feel comfortable with, e.g: v neck shirt.

Good post! I actually think I have many male tendencies – and my shopping experience is one of them. When I go out to shop, I have something in mind – which style of shoe I want, a certain color or type of dress or blouse. I never ever head to the mall or the thrift store without something in mind. I think overall what you have stated is true as many of my friends are in the “I’m bored, let’s shop” category. Also, I don’t know one male that goes to the mall to look around and see what’s out there.
It is important to feel good when you’re done getting dressed. If it doesn’t fit right or feel right most likely you will fidget with it all day or night. On the flipside, if you don’t feel great in what you’re wearing the lack of confidence can really bring you down or make you want to hide into the background.
No matter what you wear HOW you wear it matters MOST. Confidence is attractive in any outfit!

Guess it all depends on what kind of mood I’m in… but I’m usually a very female shopper. I just grab everything I like and see how it looks & occasionally I’ll try something on I wouldn’t think of wearing in the first place, but sometimes it can turn out better than expected.

I don’t like trying on items without the intention of spending money that day because I feel like it’s a waste of time to change my clothes, and if I really like the item but can’t purchase it I’ll be sad. However, I do try on plenty of items before settling on one or two. I do love the shopping process!

I am not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing but I tend to be a lot like men in the shopping department. I never try on clothes just for the sake of it even if it’s in a gorgeous store……it tires me I find. I rather like playing with clothes online, seeing what combinations I can come up with….then if I need to I order them online and try them at the comfort of my own home.

But looking good definitely leads to feeling amazing and gives one that certain spring in their step….helps a lot in having a successful day. :)

Must admit I shop like a bloke, if it’s not bought online then I am in and out the shop like i’m on a mission, will only shop if i’ve seen something online but not sure how it’ll fit, hate routing for clothes, hate que’s and pokey changing rooms……… until I came across a nice large changing room the other month with space, good mirrors and a proper door, then something clicked and i started shopping because i didn’t feel hassled for the first time in years and loved it :) Vx

  7. I’m more like the guys, really. I don’t enjoy trying things on, for the sake of it, even for the need of it! I like to go in, then out, I like shopping by myself and I prefer it, and I love empty stores, no other women outside. I guess I’m not very feminine in that sense??!
