How to Slob and Stay Stylish

Casual clothes are not my particular forte, I prefer to dress up and make an effort when ever I step outside the house. If you were to look through my wardrobe you’d probably see most of my clothes are quite smart. However, when I was writing my recent Friend Friday post ‘I Blame Marvin Gaye’ I realised that I need to step my own casual clothing game up especially when it comes to slobbing around the house.
Determine your style
This post is going to look at how to improve your own casual style. But before I go into that you need to have some sort of idea of what your own style is. As I previously mentioned I tend to dress quite smart, usually opting for tailored pieces but you maybe different. Only you can determine your own style, you may already dress quite casually which if you do, I’d encourage you to read on.
Picking the pieces
- We have a tendency to let things go when we’re at home just chilling out. But really why should we have to trade style for comfort? After giving it some thought I realised you can still wear comfortable clothing and be stylish. For example usually at home like many people I’d just chill out in baggy t shirts and tracksuit bottoms. However, I could easily make sure my tracksuit bottoms actually fit me and wear fitted t shirts to create a more stylised version of my look.
- What I’d suggest is to take a look through your wardrobe and see if there any clothes that you can pick out and rework for a more stylised item.
- Make sure everything actually fits, the same rules you’d normally apply to your smart clothing should apply to your ‘at home’ clothes.
- If you’re nipping out and don’t want to change see what you already have that you can combine to smarten your outfit up a little. A good look would be throwing on a blazer onto of a hoody, tracksuit bottoms that fit well and converse.
Just because you’re behind clothes doors and chilling out doesn’t mean you should sacrifice style. Stay at home… stay stylish.

This is such a good point, it’s always so much more attractive when a guy is wearing a tracksuit and t shirt that actually fit him properly. And I completely agree that you can maintain your own style but just have a little bit of a more relaxed edge to it xx
You definitely have a point and I agree that it’s not that hard to look stylish whilst being comfortable, but I guess I still prefer to spend my money on clothes that I wear outside
I do have some “cute” casual gear but honestly if I’m in my comfy clothes I’d rather just chill instead of caring what I look like.

Due to my back injury I’m at home a lot of the time, and I only go out to my physiotherapist and these visits have to be done in track suits or yoga like attire, plus there is no place to change at his, so cue Jess walking down the street in a very questionable fashionable manner.
Good tips and I really thing there is nothing healthier than unwinding when you are at home, however doing it the right way will keep your spirits up. I recently treated myself to a Rolling Stone inspired sweater with rhinestones to up the cozy factor to a more glam one and it helps a lot.
Thanks for all the comments peeps
hahaha! this picture is hilarious
the first thing i do when i’m at home: i put my jeans away and grab some cozy pants. i don’t care how good i look, the main thing is: coziness!!
I heartily agree with you! I love tooling around at home on the weekend in my comfies, but I’ve made an effort to upgrade what that means. Out with all the old, ill-fitting slouchy items, in with a couple nice yoga inspired pants, well-fitting and taken up to be the right length. Paired with clever graphic t-shirts from Threadless and I know I won’t ever have to apologize for not dressing up. We have too many options to feel like we have to compromise style for comfort.
