How to Find the Perfect Christmas Party dress that will Turn Heads

I can’t believe it’s almost christmas already. I enjoy christmas time but I’m not really the type that gets giddy about it in October. I was checking out my Facebook page this week and saw an increasing number of ladies updating their status with the dilemma of what to wear at their Christmas party. I know my own social calendar in the next few weeks will start to become hectic and I’m sure many of you will be in the same boat. One thing you can be sure of is that all the women that are going to be attending a Christmas party this year are going to want to look their best. Maybe you’ve been seeking a promotion and want to impress the boss or you’ve taken a shining to the new starter or you just want to feel and look amazing. Finding something to wear for your Christmas party can be a bit of a mare so I’m going to go through a few things to make it that little bit easier.

The key to any good evening outfit is something that will make you feel confident while being comfortable. As always you want it to fit your personality and flatter you. The last thing you want to be doing is worrying whether or not it fits correctly or whether you have a bra strap on show. After all, you’re meant to enjoy yourself at a party, the only time you should need to think about your outfit is when someone compliments you on it.

If you’re pressed to find something new to wear nows the time to pull out that LBD. It’s a standby piece that’s tried and tested. If you want to glam it up a little try adding some glitzy jewellery. You’ll know you look great and if you’re looking to buy a new one they’ll be hundreds of options.

The black dress is the embodiment of women’s power. It’s stark, direct, and to the point – Alexander McQueen

Temperley Vida Silk Mini Dress, £795

I’m writing this at 15:50 and it’s already starting to get dark outside. Winter’s dark enough already so providing there is no dress code go for a dress with a nice blast of colour. The colour is up to you, but I’d recommend lush, rich jewelled tones. Just remember when picking the style you don’t want to be squeezed into the dress nor do you want it too loose.

ASOS Embellished Shoulder Slinky Dress, £46

Let’s face it Christmas is all about the glitz that’s why metallics and sequin dresses are perfect. If you want to be the star of the show then this is the way to go. You still want the dress to look tasteful and not overly tacky. Make sure the cut creates a slim silhouette, you want the look to be fresh and modern rather than 1970’s disco. If you’re going for the razzle dazzle of this look tone everything else down. There’s not much need for any jewellery, keep the dress the centre piece.

Teatro Sequin Dress, £69

If you want to mix it up a little then why not consider a tuxedo? Wear one with a slinky camisole or nothing at all underneath and it oozes sophisticated sex appeal. You can style it anyway you choose. It’s a nice alternative to those who don’t want to bare as much as a dress. You can cover up by wearing a blouse, add a seductive element by having a lace bra peek out from under the jacket. Or you can team it with some denim for a more casual approach.

Let me know what pieces you’ll be wearing this Christmas for your parties.

I am absolutely fascinated with LBDs, but can’t seem to find the tried and true fit that so many of my counterparts rave about. How do you recommend going about finding the PERFECT LBD? One that’s not too short, not too conservative, and not too ‘stylized’ and can last the ages. I am in love with the purple dress you have posted here- but I am afraid I am not brave enough to pull off that color…

    suggestions?

I’ve just commented on your blog with a link to the dress I found. I know the price was a bit much but it was just to give you an idea of the style which would be great. It’s a classic style, won’t date. You could opt for something similar with a different neckline if you want it to be a bit more covered up. Hope that helps. http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/99964

Lovely post, it really makes me crave for the holidays already :) I love dressing up for these kind of things and I love that it creates an opportunity to dress up! But one important rule that you mentioned is oh so true: it has to be something that you’re comfortable in and makes you feel confident, those are always the best nights.

some people don’t dress up at christmas eve, but i love it! Even though it’s only my family and me, i still think it is important to dress nice. my parents dressed us up when we were little, and we still do now ;) since thanks giving is a huge celebration in the US, i will first check out what i’ll wear there! guess i’ll go for a “dark-color-look”, it’s always elegant!

OMG gorgeous! I love that sequin dress- so affordable! And the Asos one sholder is great. Lovely color.

  8. With my birthday, Christmas and New Years Eve all falling around the same time, I’ve found myself eyeing dresses that work for all three occasions so that way I’ll have options when it comes time to get dressed! But I do love Asos for dresses!

I really like the color of that purple dress!!….I’m on the hunt for the perfect new year eve dress now. I’ve eyed this fantastic one from Black and White House Market. Super beautiful light grey/silver dress but I don’t know if I can bring myself to spend 100something on a dress that I might only wear once, yet I torture myself by looking at such things I’m also bad because I hardly recycle dresses! But there is a Betsey Johnson sample sale coming my way this week so I’m def. gonna have to hit it up. Sample Sales have been my new thing and is now pretty much the only way I buy designer names (since my paycheck can’t fund it otherwise).
