Trends: The Secret of How to Wear Statement Tights

A few weeks ago I was watching X Factor with my girlfriend, Wagner to win! Cheryl Cole was set to perform one of her singles. She came out wearing some Wolford bondage tights and we both immediately said everyone will be after those now. The next day at work my girlfriend got bombarded with questions and phone calls from customers asking about the tights. If you didn’t already know statement tights are huge at the moment. Some of you reading this article may have already jumped head first into the trend. If you’re still unsure how to wear statement tights or you fancy a few extra tips then read on as I explore the secret of how anyone can pull them off.

  • So you want to go out and you feel you’ve got nothing to wear. You look inside your purse and you just about scrape together £15. You’re not going to be able to afford to buy a whole new outfit for the evening’s activities. However you could afford to stretch to a pair of tights. This brings me to my first point and is the fabulous thing about them, they don’t cost a lot but the impact they have on outfit is huge, hence the term ‘statement tights’.

  • Another great thing about them is that there is a pattern for everyone. Feeling playful? go for the polka dot patterns. Want to look seductive? Invest in the stocking and suspender patterns. A day at the office? the classic houndstooth. There really is a look for everyone and because of the huge variety it gives you the option to express the different sides of your personality.
  • Patterned tights can add weight to your legs so if you’re wanting to keep them looking slim and toned go for vertical patterns like striped detailing. For Spanx fans they also have brought out their own range that are an excellent choice for both the office or an evening out.

  • Another tip is to avoid wearing them with shoes that have a lot of detailing or embellishment, otherwise  they will just clash.
  • If you want to wear them in the office you’ll need to pick your pattern carefully. Look for more toned down patterns such as the houndstooth or vertical stripes and offset them with classic staples.
  • As a general rule of thumb, the busier the pattern, the simpler the outfit. After all, let the tights do the talking.

I love statement tights, although I have to admit they can be hard to combine! I prefer wearing neutral clothes with them, let all the attention go to the tights :)

I love tights and wear them as much as I can! I have an entire drawer dedicated to them. I have tons of statement tights, but I usually downplay the rest of the outfit so the tights are the stars. I frequently rely on brown, black or dark purple so I can wear the craziest of tights.

  5. Madeleine says:

I love frugal ways of spicing up old outfits – great idea! :) Years ago I owned many pairs of tights but have since wittled my collection down. The 30for30 Remix Challenge I am taking part in is making me realize how much I need to add a few new pairs to my collection.

I LOVE statement tights but I have to admit that I find them difficult to wear. I might invest on a pair this season though, and give it a try. :)

i do like to wear tights, but honestly, i prefer to buy expensive brands. first of all, they last forever and they are much more confortable!! i’m also a fan of leggings with patterns on it – i’m actually looking for a zebra pattern =)

    btw, i’m from switzerland..

I totally adore statement tights! I think patterns look so cool…I have a few pair that I spatter in with some of my looks for a fun punch and something different. AND I do keep it basic when I wear them…I think what you said about that is SO important :]

Hope you are having a great weekend!
