15 Style Mistakes Every Man Should Avoid

I’m currently feeling a little under the weather at the moment, so it’s just a quick post this week. I wanted to provide a quick tips guide for men on things to avoid to make you more stylish. This has come from my own experience, observing other guys and some general style basic knowledge that I’ve picked up a long the way. If you’re just starting out trying to improve your style, I suggest you go back and read our men’s style starting guide. Anyway I need to go back to popping paracetamol and chilling out on the bed. So here are my 15 mistakes for every guy to avoid
- Wearing sports socks – The only time you should be wearing sports socks are for… you guessed it sports.
- Keep the flip flops for the beach – I maybe on my own here but unless your by the pool or the beach flip flops or sandalsaren’t cool on guys. If you want alternative footwear for summer look into boat shoes.
- Keeping facial hair well groomed – I admit I sometimes fall into this category, your face is the first thing people see and notice. Make sure if you keep any facial hair well groomed.
- Bulky pockets – Bulging pockets spoil the line of your trousers, rather than having everything stuffed in your wallet, have regular clear outs or buy a money clip.
- Too many prints – Avoid wearing too many patterns and prints.
- Square toed shoes – I still see guys wearing clunky square toed shoes, ditch these in favour of a slimmer style.
- Tucking in T shirts – If it’s long enough to tuck in, it is probably too big for you.
- Wearing too many colours – You don’t want to look like a clown so try and keep the number of colours in an outfit down to three.
- Creased clothes – It only takes two minutes to quickly iron what you’re going to wear. Creased clothes just show you don’t care about your appearance.
- Socks and sandals – I’d like to think no one would do this… but just in case… no
- Buttoning too many buttons – If you’re wearing a 2 buttoned suit jacket only button the top button. On a 3 buttoned jacket either button the middle button or the top and middle button. If in doubt just remember to leave the bottom button undone.
- Back packs with a suit – Why spoil a perfectly good formal look with a sports back pack? Invest in a nice leather satchel or man bag.
- Dirty Shoes – Same goes for your clothes, a stylish guy keeps both clean.
- Clothes that don’t fit – Make sure you’re wearing clothes that fit your body type, baggy clothes just look untidy.
- Oversized branding – avoid at all cost’s looks tacky and tasteless.

These are sooo true, I’ve witnessed all of them!

Trainers with suits, skinny ties to work, shirts with pockets on slim-fit suits, yellow shirts and vest tops worn with blazers.
Sandals in socks are the worst! Why would someone wear sandals if they are gonna put socks on?
I don’t want a guy to be too groomed, but a few of your points are definitely true!

The picture of the flip flops with socks is really HIDEOUS! Hopefully this article with will stop this fashion atrocity!
haha – that’s a funny post! during summer time, i see many mistakes men make!! especially the one with the white socks and sandals – CRAZY!!! I think white socks are anyway a no-go! you should only wear them during sport activities!

Agreed on all counts. Wise advice. So many guys just don’t care what they look like and that baffles me. Socks and sandals…men do this. A lot. At least in the States…and I just want to stop them on the street and tell them that they are committing a horrible crime of fashion. Although, they probably would not care in the least.
Great list.

Arash, this is a great list.
Something I am not a huge fan of is grown men in football shirts, unless of course they are on a pitch and have shorts, socks and boots to match!!
