5 Tips for September Style

It’s that time again, September! I technically class September as summer, although more often than not the weather is miserable. While you’re probably still ogling at the spring summer collections from fashion week, it’s time to start moving away from your spring summer wardrobe. If the weather’s still nice, by all means take advantage, however I usually find September can be a bit of a transitional month. It’s not quite warm enough for your summer outfits, yet not really cold enough for cosy winter pieces. I often struggle myself, just today I had to resist the temptation to throw on my winter coat as I knew after I’d been walking for 5 minutes I’d probably be all hot and bothered. So what do you wear? If you’re like me you maybe itching to get wrapped up in your winter wardrobe, if you are hold your horses and check out our transitional guide.
- One piece I think everyone should own which is perfect for transitional months, whether summer to autumn or winter to spring; the trench coat. The trench coat has been around for ages and really are a fashion essential. They’ll always be on trend and look great on young and old and all shapes and sizes. The best thing is they’re the perfect combo of glamourous, cool and practical, perfect for throwing when it’s a bit nippy in the transitional months.

- If you don’t own a trench coat or care to invest in one then now is the time to revisit any jackets you have or look for a new one. Again can be worn during the day and even carried through into the night for when it gets chillier. You don’t want anything too heavy leave those for winter, the right jacket will compliment your day time jeans and night time cocktail dress. Styles to consider; luxe leather, boho floaty jacket or even a boucle jacket made famous by Coco Chanel.
- Layering is a fundamental technique for this time of the year. layering fine knits, tee’s and vests can be the basis for any outfit. If you’re using knits keep the fabric fine so you don’t add bulk and don’t overheat.
- If you love your chunky knits too much and can’t wait to wrap yourself up in them, stick to wearing them as a top layer and simply wear a tee or vest underneath.
- As always accessorise, try skipping a jacket and coat and keep yourself warm with a chunky scarf. If you still want to bare some skin, why not go for one of autumn/winter’s hottest accessories; knee high socks!
