Mens Autumn Winter 2010 Trend Guide Part 1

We’ve done the ladies trends now it’s time for the men’s trends. I’m a big fan of autumn winter clothing so I’m always more excited to see the looks from the runway. Even though I love my summer wardrobe I think I prefer my winter wears just that little bit more.

Although there are always plenty of women’s trend reports I always find it bit more of a chore to find trend reports for menswear. When I worked at Harvey Nichols we had to research up and coming trends I always had to browse multiple sites to find out what was key for that season. That has inspired me to do regular trend reports for this blog as I know    first hand how much of a pain it can be to find out whats key for the up and coming season.

I mentioned in a previous article how to create your own look book and the importance of knowing up and coming trends, if you haven’t already checked out that article then I encourage you to go back and have a look now. Men’s trends don’t change as often as women’s so you may well see some looks that have been carried over from past seasons, you may also find that some influences from the current women’s trends have crossed over.

Prints

Prints were key this season and could be found on the runways of McQueen, Dries and Prada. Rather than copy the head to toe look sported by McQueen use a print as a statement piece and team with other staples.

Military

Military has been big for a few season’s now, you could go as far as saying military inspired pieces will always be classics that you can rely on. Burberry as always had a heavily military inspired show, but you could also find it in Bottega and Prada.

Fur

Fur is a big trend this season in womenswear and it has also made it’s way in to the menswear collections. Rather than the full fur get ups seen in the Chanel womenswear collection, they were mostly seen as trims and linings and accessories on the likes of D&G, Rick Owens and McQueen.

Chunky Knits

Similar to military inspired pieces, chunky knits have been around for a few seasons and can now be considered a winter staple for men, try opting for a patterned knit this season as seen by Gucci.

Minimalism

Like Fur, minimalism was also a trend seen in the women’s shows. Christian Dior, Jil sander and Raf Simmons all had minimalist infused collections. Think clean lines and sharp cuts.
